I was told as a child not to voice my worst fears out loud because although Satan can't read minds, he is listening and could use those things to test us duriing persecution. I've heard other JWs say the same. I had night terrors and was told to shout Jehovah's name, which I did and it worked (figures really) but it always seemed like using the name as a talisman to me.

Things in the past that show you that your doubts started earlier than you thought
by sabastious ini was just talking to my wife this morning about underlining or highlighting the wt paragraphs.. when i was 13 years old i would fight with my dad because i refused to highlight the answers.. the reason was because i wanted my comment to be genuine.
i felt that highlighting the "answer" made me lean on just using that as a crutch and not truly putting it in my own words.. i still hold that argument now, and i am 26. the only reason you would ever have to highlight something in a study book would be if you needed to remember it, maybe it is fairly complicated or subtle information that could be easily forgotten.. so many times in the wt the "question" has the same phrase that's in the paragraph!
it's literally like playing connect the dots.. so what i would do is not highlight during the family study.

OK, so it's an old thread but since it's been bumped I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
When I was a young child, maybe 5 or 6 years old, I wondered whether my life was an experiment to see how a child would react to certain things, kind of like The Truman Show. The things I thought I was being tested for were always JW related. When The Truman Show was released and I saw it, it really resonated with me. My mum told me she always felt the same way as a child, she was also raised as a JW. Another poster on this forum experienced a similar thing and yet I've never come across it in a non-JW (and I have spoken of it to a fair few people).

it's seriously giving way too much attention to drivel..

Was it ever explained how.......
by Reality79 in......god ignored the whole of mankind for 2,000 years and then suddenly decided in the late 1800s to give "da troof" to ole charlie boy?
i was just looking at someone's parody jw channel and the person posed this very same question.
i'll admit i've thought about it but not too deeply.. so, does anyone know why "true worship" didn't exist for all that time until god decided to grant russell special powers to determine truth?.

Free education
Free healthcare
Higher taxes
(The first two necessitate the third but well worth it, IMO).

I didn't think that any of the participants were anointed until Pentacost some time later when the Holy Spirit was poured out. Did I miss something?
Um yes, you're right! How did I never think about this?!
The whole religion is just misdirection, much like this:
